An Invaluable Resource
The role of the information professional is evolving into that of a facilitator and strategist – someone who not only provides access to information but also actively cultivates knowledge in the organization. Presto supports this evolution by facilitating the sharing, management and re-purposing of your organization’s information assets across multiple collections, be they dynamic or archival in nature. Whether you’re part of a pharmaceutical company disseminating information from R&D to medical affairs, building a product development archive to support research, creating an image archive, or creating a collection of articles from external news feeds, Presto allows you to easily create and maintain collections of information while providing robust access for your end users. Content can be aggregated from disparate internal and external sources and deployed in intranet, extranet or other Web environments. Information can be searched by a specific collection or across all the collections managed by Presto.
Manage assets in many different forms
Information-rich organizations need to maintain and provide access to all of their content so that the right information is available when needed. However, that content comes in many formats, each with unique characteristics. Because Presto captures and maintains these properties as metadata, end users can search the content from many different perspectives.
To help you quickly gain value from Presto, the software supports standard properties for common content types, such as electronic documents, images, and physical objects. Depending on your needs, these content descriptors can be extended to include additional properties that describe your unique content.
Enabling information discovery
Metadata is the heart and soul of Presto. It powers the variety of ways in which your end users can search and the myriad of formats that are included. End users can search within a specific content type such as images, or search across content types for everything related to a particular collection, e.g. by date or keyword. Presto provides flexibility in meeting your end users’ search needs and level of experience with both advanced and simple search functionality.
Search results are displayed in a format best suited to each type of content retrieved. Presto‘s search capabilities support relevance ranking across different content types, word highlighting, natural language search, wild card and many more search features. Through Inmagic’s partnership with WebFeat, Presto users can conduct federated searches across virtually unlimited external sources.
Since your end users may not know exactly what they are seeking, Presto supports taxonomy structures and provides a browsable directory that allows your end users to navigate to the information they need.
Increase Self-Sufficiency
With Presto your end users can do more than simply search and access your content and information resources. End users can email the results of a search to a colleague. Content can be saved or downloaded directly to a desktop. If end users have additional questions or if the content is not available electronically, they can submit a request for information through the system. By empowering your end users to perform these activities, Presto facilitates the knowledge sharing necessary in today’s information-rich organizations.
End users can define alerts based on system or user events, or on a search query. They receive alerts via email or a portlet, or by using a favorite RSS reader to subscribe to Presto events and information.
Information asset security
Presto is a fully permission-based system, enabling you to control what various users can see and do. Presto’s event logging capabilities allow you to track all changes and provide an audit trail. Presto is integrated with Active Directory and eDirectory.
Gain independence from IT
Presto puts the power of the system in your hands and helps you to gain independence from your IT group. You can configure many aspects of Presto to your unique needs, including adding new content, changing the properties of a field or content type, and modifying the look and feel of the system. Because Presto is built on Microsoft® SQL™ Server and ASP.NET technologies, your IT group should feel confident that it can be integrated within your organization’s overall IT architecture.
